The Lagos State Government has flagged off the construction of Adebayo Akinade Street, a major road project in the Igbe Community of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), with Executive Chairman Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun commending the state government for its continued investment in rural infrastructure.
The flag-off ceremony, held on Tuesday, brought together government officials, community leaders and residents. The project is expected to cover approximately 700 metres.
The project engineer, Engr. Lawal, assured residents that construction would be completed before 25 December to make the road motorable during the Christmas season. The stated overall project timeline is 18 months.
In his remarks, Chairman Aroyewun expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
He also commended the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, who represented Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event, for his sustained follow-through in ensuring that the project progressed to the flag-off stage.
Aroyewun urged residents to cooperate with the contractors throughout the construction period and warned that obstruction of the project would attract prosecution.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Noah Jinadu, representing the Odera Community Development Association (CDA), commended the Lagos State Government for responding to the community’s infrastructure needs, as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa, in her welcome address, also acknowledged the community’s efforts towards improving its environment.
The Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun, welcomed the engineer’s completion assurance and pledged to hold him to the timeline.
Dr. Agbaje, also speaking said the project reflected the purpose of the Rural Development Committee and urged residents to continue supporting the government’s development efforts.
The project is expected to improve accessibility within the Igbe community significantly and further strengthen infrastructure in the area.
